Comfort – relaxation – these are important factors in the healing process for “alternative medicine.” From the moment you walk into Sean’s Massage Center, our staff strives to make you the visitor comfortable in addition to relieving what ails them, using Aveda oil on a warmed massage table in all massage services. Soothing background music helps build up the ambience of relaxation and healing as our practitioners go to work.

The Swedish massage was developed in the latter 18th century by Per Henrik Ling, a Swedish native whose innovative physical therapy was introduced to America in the mid-19th century. Ling’s innovative technique was based on Euro-American medical knowledge of human physiology.

Much of Western “alternative medicine” stems from the Swedish massage. This technique uses light strokes with light to medium pressure which effectively eases muscle tension and stress. When administered by a professional it will encourage blood flow (therefore, oxygen flow) to encourage healing and allow the release of endorphins.

Massages as a form of healing have been around since about 500 years before the birth of Christ, but the medical theories at that time (like some present Eastern practices) seemed more holistic, combining the physical, spiritual, and the mental state of the patient.

Sean’s Massage Center

Sean of Sean’s Massage Center is trained in a variety of techniques and his massages are part of the OSU health benefits. Some of Sean’s specialties include Swedish massages, reflexology, couples massages, prenatal massages, and other techniques.

For example, Reflexology is a reliable technique, effective in relieving stress-related maladies and other conditions, such as allergies, headaches and depression. It has far-reaching results in dealing with nervousness because it addresses the natural balance of the entire body, much more through than a regular massage. Reflexology experts tell us that every part of your body is in some way “wired up to the hands and (especially) the feet. By stimulating certain pressure points – called nerve zones – the skilled practitioner will bring about positive effect in a corresponding region or function in the human body.

Sore or knotted muscles can be treated through methods like heated stone massage, a proven healthful aid in relieving numerous muscle ailments. This form of physical therapy can be administered by moving the warmed, oiled stone lightly of the skin of the recipient. Another method is placing stones on the person’s skin in specified locations.

A massage table specifically designed for expectant mothers will provide a new level of comfort. Pregnancy involves a tumult of physical and emotional stresses. A pregnancy massage can alleviate some of that like joint pain, posture imbalance, and respirational and digestive issues.

Cupping is an effective practice that uses bulbous cups to massage the recipient. Generally used against “cold energy” in the client, the warmth produced by the cupping technique stimulates the skin. Blood is attracted to the afflicted area. Cupping is sometimes used for respiratory disease and in digestive or gynecological disorders. It is also effective in relieving dizziness, headaches, and lymphatic blockages.

Mobile massages are increasing in popularity. Many customers like the fact that some alternative medical practitioners are willing to make an old fashioned “house call.” For a fee of $120 for an hour or $150 for an hour and one half customers can relax in their own home, office, or elsewhere as they get a massage.
